Between the years 1820 and 1855, the castle that dominates Brno from the Spielberg hill was a prison for the political activists rated as the most dangerous for the Austro-Hungarian empire. Including the "Carbonari", members of an Italian Secret Society opposing the monarchy. In a jail of the Spielberg castle, Silvio Pellico wrote "My prisons" and this is one of the very few clear links that can be traced in the History book between Italy and the Moravian town. In a smaller volume - the one dedicated to sport - and in a special section - the pages devoted to motor-sports - it is quite a different thing. At the Brno track, the Italian riders have been so far the dominant force in every class of the World Championship: they got ten victories in the 125cc category, eleven in the 250cc, thirteen in the 500/MotoGP. At least the double of any other nation in each class. In other words, the Brno circuit is felt by Italians as one of "their" places. The Czech GP is always important for the Scot Racing Team, but this year’s event is even more. It marks the start of the second half of the season, and Hiroshi Aoyama, a Scot’s rider, is leading the 250 cc class. Besides, this is Gabor Talmacsi’s home race: waiting for the Balatonring, which will be ready next year, Brno is the closest track to the Hungarian border: Budapest is only 320 kilometers away from the track, and the fans use to come and support him in big number every year. Both Hiroshi and Gabor already got on the podium at Brno. By coincidence, it happened the same year, and on the same step: it was in 2006, when Aoyama classified third on a 250 cc bike, and Talmacsi got the same result on a 125 cc. Raffaele De Rosa, in 2008, when still competing in the 125 class, posted the fastest time in the qualifying 2. Gabor Talmacsi (MotoGP): “Every year, my fans gather in the C sector. So I can look for them easily, also during the race. It is fabulous seeing our national flag and the banners flying in the air. This is always a special weekend for me – special pressure, but also special joy”. “The layout suits my riding style: I love this large-section track, where you can choose between several different lines. It is flowing, and not stop-and-go. I love it, in spite of the fact that it never was too good to me in the last laps. More than once I lost a great result just in the final kilometers”. “This year, on a MotoGP bike, a totally different approach will be needed. I would love to arrive within the first ten riders. This would mean seven competitors behind me – would be great”. Hiroshi Aoyama (250cc): "I did not go to Japan for the summer break. I preferred to stay in Barcelona, training for the Czech Republic GP. I love the track. It is not easy, with its long straights, its up-and-downs, the high speed reached. Perhaps it is not the most suitable for our Honda. But we can do well in the technical sectors and in some turns and, moreover, nobody expected us to do well as we did in the previous track. So, why not?". Raffaele De Rosa (250cc): "I like Brno. It's a great track - flowing, high speed. Mugello-style. I know that the team are working to improve the performance, and I'm very confident: our crew has been able since the beginning of the season to prepare an excellent bike for both riders. Rain or sun? Honestly, I don't care. It's the same, for me". Emanuele Ventura (Technical Director): "We studied a few solutions to give our 250 cc bikes that bit of extra-speed to allow our riders to fight at the best level. In MotoGP, Gabor is trying to transfer on the dry the ability already shown on the wet. A testing day is already planned the next Monday, and that will be a very important chance to work on it".
